ASSISTANT CURATOR ? Seasonal Student/Youth Role 2026

Komoka Railway Museum

The Komoka Railway museum is looking for an energetic, customer-service oriented student or youth to assist during the summer months. This role is 35 hours per week. The successful candidate will be a youth between 15 and 30 years of age (to comply with the requirements of the federal Canada Summer Jobs funding program) and must have the ability to start June 27th and complete the season on August 22nd. Job Details:

? Greet visitors to the museum and provide guidance through the museum site. ? Process cash or debit/credit transactions for admissions and sale of gift shop items to visitors, operate a cash register and complete daily opening / closing forms. ? Assist museum volunteers in reconstruction or restoration of museum artefacts, involving mechanical, woodworking or electrical/electronic skills or organization and storage of paper documents. ? Create or update displays of artefacts including signage, didactic panels, mounting and presentation. ? Help expand our offerings to children and youth by creating age specific displays, handouts and website materials. ? Catalogue artefacts and maintain accurate records under the direction of the President and Curator using either paper records or entering into a digital archive format. ? Researching on-line information and summarizing your findings. Correspond with other museums and archives as necessary. ? Computer-related tasks involving Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint. ? Familiarity with Canva (an on-line design program) is an asset. ? assist with our map cataloguing project. ? Assist with updating of website using WordPress. ? Initiate content for our social media sites including Facebook and Instagram. ? Write articles for the museum newsletter or local media. ? Assist the Treasurer with completing financial record tasks. ? Assist volunteers and members with upkeep of buildings and grounds. May include some light construction. ? Option to create and work on independent projects of interest to the employee and of benefit to the museum. ? Thursday ? Sunday, 9:00 am ? 4:00 pm plus one additional day per week. ? $17.90/hour.

REQUIREMENTS:

? Must have excellent attention to detail. ? Must have customer service skills, previous experience in customer service is an asset. ? Must be able to work around dust and with dusty artifacts. ? Be able to work with cash and perform basic math. ? Must have excellent work ethic and ability to manage opening and closing the museum; previous experience as a key holder is an asset.
