Worksite: Chilliwack Secondary School / Alternative Education - Summer Learning and Sardis Secondary Farm

Contract Type: Special Project Assignment – Summer Learning Teacher

Assignment Area(s): Grade 3-5, Elementary Agriculture Program (2 Positions)

Effective Date: 3 Weeks: July 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 (8:15 am – 12:45 pm) (Instruction time 8:30 – 12:30)

Please Note: The assignment in July may not be identical to the assignment in this posted position. Summer school programs are contingent upon student enrolment. If, on or around June 26, 2026, there are insufficient class numbers for this assignment the course will be cancelled, and the teaching contract will be rescinded. Teachers will be paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement (Article B.29). By accepting this assignment, teachers do not receive experience or earn seniority or aggregate months of service towards conversions to a continuing contract (B status).

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

• extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
• knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
• successful experience in teaching prior Summer Learning courses
• experience with teaching Grades 3-5
• extensive experience with school gardens and garden-based learning
• Professional development in garden-based learning and sustainable gardening
• knowledge in ecosystems and ecological/ecosystem services
• deep understanding of Apiology/bee keeping
• prior experience working as part of a larger team on a shared farm site
• ability to collaborate and work with other teachers within the program
