About Us

The Office of the Registrar's Student Financial Services maintains the integrity and accuracy of student financial information throughout the student lifecycle while providing exemplary customer service. To support student and institutional success by appropriately assessing and billing tuition and student fees, collecting outstanding receivables, processing government loan and grant applications, as well as providing access to institutional financial aid through scholarships, awards, bursaries and the work-study bursary program.

Responsibilities

The Student Financial Services Intern works closely with the staff within the Office of the Registrar and clients to ensure that student financial information is recorded and reported accurately. The Officer will be a point person within for student financials inquiries (in-person, telephone, Salesforce) regarding fees and scholarships. The Officer will ensure there is accurate accounting and internal control over financial transactions processed within Student Financial Services. The Officer will manage student accounts receivable balances, the collection of outstanding amounts and provides additional accounting support as required. The Officer will be the initial contact with our customer base to resolve billing, collection and fee issues and will be responsible for the compilation of data used to prepare Student Financial reports and information requests from various stakeholders by the Manager, Fees.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in Commerce, Business or Accounting

Experience:

  • Experience providing customer service in a professional, volunteer, academic, or retail environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact respectfully and professionally with students and staff
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy when handling information
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Comfortable learning new computer systems and using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information with discretion
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

  • Positive attitude with genuine customer service orientation with a proven ability to interact with people in a professional, respectful, and diplomatic manner
  • Results-oriented with an ability to handle many tasks and maintain a high level of individual and team performance
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Demonstrated analytical ability with a working knowledge of accounting principles to analyze and accurately synthesize sizable amounts of detail/data
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sensitivity to student issues and the ability to exercise judgement appropriately to recognize when taking difficult but necessary positions in emotional circumstances is required
