The Estimator will perform quantity takeoffs, prepare detailed cost estimates, and manage bid submissions for heavy civil and landscape construction projects. Additionally, the role provides support to project managers with invoicing, change orders, and site coordination as needed.
D&G Landscaping Inc. is Eastern Ontario’s commercial landscape and heavy civil construction leader. We are proud to have delivered some of the largest and most high-profile landscape construction and civil projects in Ottawa, including Parliament Hill (West Block & Centre Block), Lansdowne Park, Rideau Street, Elgin Street, and multiple OLRT stations. We are currently looking for an experienced Estimator to join our growing team. This position will be primarily focused on estimating, including quantity takeoffs, pricing, bid preparation, subcontractor and supplier coordination, and pre-construction planning. Depending on business needs and the successful candidate’s experience, this role will also provide support with project management and project coordination activities, particularly during periods of high project demand. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, technically minded, and understands the realities of heavy civil construction, excavation, site servicing, landscape construction, and commercial projects. Key Responsibilities: Estimating & Pre-Construction Review and interpret civil drawings, specifications, grading plans, landscape designs, tender documents, and contract requirements Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for civil, excavation, site servicing, concrete, hardscape, softscape, and landscape construction scopes Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bid submissions Obtain and evaluate pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors Prepare RFQs and coordinate subcontractor and supplier quotations Analyze project plans and specifications to identify scope gaps, risks, exclusions, and opportunities Develop competitive and accurate unit-rate pricing Assist with bid strategy and pre-construction planning Maintain organized estimating files, bid documentation, and pricing information Participate in tender reviews and provide recommendations to senior management Assist with value engineering and identifying cost-saving opportunities Track market pricing, material costs, labour requirements, and subcontractor pricing Ensure estimates are accurate, complete, and submitted within tender deadlines Project Management Support Depending on business needs, assist Project Managers and the Construction Manager with the coordination and delivery of active projects Assist with progress quantities, invoicing, and payment applications Support change order pricing, documentation, and tracking Qualifications & Experience: 3–5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction, commercial landscaping, excavation, site development, or a related construction environment Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, labour requirements, and production rates Ability to accurately read and interpret civil drawings, grading plans, landscape plans, specifications, and tender documents Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs and preparing competitive estimates Experience with unit-rate pricing, subcontractor quotations, material pricing, and change order pricing Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook Experience with Bluebeam or similar construction estimating/takeoff software Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies or potential risks Strong communication and negotiation skills Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project management and senior leadership Valid G-Class driver's license What We Offer Competitive salary based on experience Opportunity for growth within a growing commercial construction company Exposure to some of Ottawa’s largest and most recognized civil and landscape construction projects Supportive team environment with direct access to senior leadership Training and professional development opportunities Company laptop and phone Mileage reimbursement or vehicle compensation available and tailored to the successful candidate We thank all who apply, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
